Regional Tourism New Zealand’s (RTNZ) role is to serve as the peak membership organisation representing the Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) in Aotearoa New Zealand. It advocates for the interests of RTOs and regional tourism, fosters collaboration across the network and system, and works towards sustainable growth and prosperity of tourism in our regions. Additionally, RTNZ provides support, resources, and strategic leadership to its members, aiming to address challenges, share best practices, and drive positive outcomes for the regional tourism sector.

Purpose

Our core purpose is to advocate for the interests of regional tourism organisations and facilitate collaboration to advance the sustainable development of tourism in New Zealand. We will support the delivery of the vision by providing strategic leadership, advocacy, and capacity and capability building initiatives that empower RTOs to effectively manage and promote their destinations, while also fostering partnerships that enhance the overall resilience and sustainability of the tourism sector.

Vision

Our vision is to achieve sustainable tourism growth in our regions by championing regenerative
approaches and prioritising the well-being of communities and the environment. Through
collaborative partnerships and stewardship practices rooted in Te Ao Māori principles, we aim
to foster sustainability, resilience, and enduring prosperity for generations to come.

Guiding Principles

Our strategic direction is underpinned by the following four guiding principles:
