ABOUT TRUST TAIRĀWHITI
As both the Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO) and Economic Development Agency (EDA) for the Tairāwhiti region, Trust Tairāwhiti is committed to driving sustainable economic growth and ensuring that tourism benefits local communities. Guided by He Rangitapu He Tohu Ora, the wellbeing framework, we take a strategic approach to tourism, focusing on attracting visitors who will stay longer, spend more, and engage with the region’s unique offerings.
Our high-quality promotional activities celebrate the distinctiveness of Tairāwhiti, while destination development focuses on enhancing authentic Eat, Stay, Do experiences to extend visitor stays and spending. The region’s diversity, heritage, and taonga present valuable opportunities, and the Trust works to identify priorities for growing tourism businesses.
Investing in destination management is vital to the sustainability and alignment of tourism systems. We continue to strengthen key partnerships with mana whenua and Gisborne District Council to achieve shared aspirations for the region, while managing funding distributions to beneficiaries to support community initiatives
