Lusia Matairakula holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with majors in Tourism Management and Geography. Early in her career, she interned with the Department of Mineral Resources in Fiji, where she played a vital role in inspecting license holders of quarries, sand and gravel extraction sites, and mining operations across Fiji to ensure compliance with their Environmental Impact Assessments.
In 2021, Lusia joined the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) as a Project Assistant in the Sustainable Tourism Development team. In this role, she assists in implementing the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework (PSTPF). Her contributions to SPTO include developing the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Standard, the Pacific Cultural Tourism Guidelines, and Sustainable Tourism Assessments of World Heritage sites in the Pacific, among other significant projects.
Outside of her professional life, Lusia is a dedicated youth leader in her local parish. She actively works to elevate the voices of young people, ensuring their perspectives are heard and respected by the church elders.
